The New England Patriots are perennial Superbowl contenders and the NFL 2013 season will be no different, with the Pats installed as favourites for Superbowl XLVIII at odds of $7.00.

Up against the Buffalo Bills, the Patriots are expected to get their season off to a flyer and are odds on favourites to win this Round 1 encounter. However new Bills Head Coach Doug Marrone will have very different ideas.

The Bills have not had a winning season since 2004 (9-7) and have suffered 6-10 losing records in each of the last two NFL seasons, however things are looking brighter for the 2013 season. Head Coach Chan Gailey has been replaced by Syracuse's Doug Marrone, and with Marrone boasting a superb record as offensive coordinator for the Saints between 2006 and 2008, we expect the Bills to be a lot more offensive in the 2013 season.

Marry this to their draft of the flying Rookie of the Year contender, Robert Woods, a Wide Receiver with 200m and 400m sprint times that make him a globally ranked junior sprinter, and we think the Bills could have their first winning season for many years.

We don't think the Bills will win this 2013 season opener against the best team in the NFL, however a good performance and a close game is sure to boost their confidence for the rest of the NFL season.

The Patriots beat the Bills twice last season scoring 89 points in the process, and this could be another high scoring affair. QB Tom Brady, keen to get over the disappointment of a poor game in the AF Title game against the Ravens, will be looking to impress and to drive his team towards another Superbowl.

New England may suffer in the early rounds after the departure of Wide Receiver Wes Welker (now on Denver Bronco's payroll), however Brady should have enough firepower to see the Patriots home in this one.

Our tip for this game is Bills + $7.00 at odds of $1.92.

Curiously, if you did fancy backing the Bills head to head at odds of $3.75, you'd be much better spreading that bet over Bills 1-6pts and Bills 7-12pts. There is much better value and in the unlikely event the Bills did win, they certainly won't win by more than 12 points.
