Whobegotyou firm favourite for Cox Plate

Betting markets for the Cox Plate show Whobegotyou now as the firm favourite at 2.60 with ex-Caulfield Cup shot Speed Gifted on 11.00.

Speed Gifted was diverted from Saturday's Caulfield Cup after his connections opted for a Cox Plate route to the Melbourne Cup.

Sportingbet now has him just behind El Segundo and Predatory Pricer, both on 10.00, while current second favourite Heart of Dreams is on 7.00.

Maldivian is out of the $3 million race after developing an injury during the week, which appears to have strengthened the odds of Whobegotyou.

The current favourite for the Moonee Valley headliner won the Yalumba Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday, ending up three quarters of a length clear of Heart Of Dreams.

Trainer Mark Kavanagh told the New Zealand Herald Whobegotyou could be ready to win the Plate on Saturday week: "Let's hope so, he's got a good record at Moonee Valley so he looks right on track," he said.

"It's really exciting to have a headline act."

Whobegotyou has already claimed the group 2 1600m Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes and had Maldivian as his closest rival in the betting markets before he was forced out of the running with a warm tendon.
