Gary Ablett $7.00 Favourite For 2014 Brownlow Medal

February 9th, 2014 by TJ Dilfer

Gary Ablett Jr. has an impressive CV. He won the flag twice with Geelong, he has two Brownlow Medals to his name, and he has won a cabinet-full of awards over the years, including five MVP awards and any number of Player of the Year awards from various sources, and he’s been an All-Australian for the past seven years running.

He’s facing a compelling challenge, too, this year, as the leader of a Suns side that will hope to compete right to the end of the season, and for whom the measure of success has been rising quickly. Gold Coast might be $67.00 bets to take the pennant, but the $15.00 you’ll get for them to finish in the top 4 might be quite tempting, as is the $3.50 on offer for them to make the top 8. However the season turns out for the Suns, though, their fans will be confident at least that Ablett will continue to turn in great performances around which their emerging team can organise themselves. And those great performances will put Ablett in contention for more personal success in 2014. He’s a long $51.00 bet to claim the Coleman Medal, but he’s likely to be close to the winner if not to claiming the medal – more likely he will finish very close to the Brownlow Medal again this season, and the bookies have him as the $7.00 favourite to win it. It’s a long season, but if Ablett starts to find form, then those odds will get shorter, and that means he might be worth a bet before the first weekend of games…
