Melbourne Cup Odds: Bande And Admire Rakti Arrived

October 9th, 2014 by Pom de Turf

There’s been a little something missing from the Melbourne Cup for the past few years. Not that we would necessarily have been able to put our finger on it on race day, and not that there haven’t been thrilling, dramatic Melbourne Cups over the past few years. But principally thanks to an outbreak of equine flu, there haven’t really been any Japanese stayers in the Racing odds for the Melbourne Cup, and that has been a loss for the Cup as much as it has been for Japanese Racing.

That’s set to change in 2014, though, with a couple of red-hot prospects from Japan in the Melbourne Cup, and both of them right amongst the horses with the shortest odds beside their names at this (relatively) early stage on Sportsbet. I would expect they would do some light exercise tomorrow before doing something more serious later in the week.’

It’s not entirely clear what we can expect from the Melbourne Spring schedules of these two Japanese raiders, but they will certainly be featuring in the Racing odds for the Melbourne Cup, and possibly involved in other big races besides. What’s for certain is that there are already some pretty high expectations of them – we’ve seen more than a couple of comparisons with the 2006 pair Delta Blues and Pop Rocks, who quinellaed the Melbourne Cup…
