Melbourne Cup Racing Odds: Myer Classic For Politeness

August 21st, 2014 by Pom de Turf

Look out for exciting 4-year-old Politeness in the 2014 Myer Classic: according to trainer Robert Smerdon her Spring Season will culminate in a run at Flemington on November 1st. But look out for her name in the Racing odds, too, as we go through the Melbourne Spring – she’s a horse that could be in with a shout in a few big races!

Politeness hadn’t had a run out since April, when she came home as a winner in the P.J. Bell Stakes. A barrier trial last week at Randwick – one that was a gentle run out, but that seemed to go well – has left Smerdon in good spirits, too, as the Melbourne Spring looms: ‘she had a very, very easy day. She was never going to come off the bit. She was probably at a point where we were ready to go there and take some benefit, but with the track being as wet as it was we were very conservative on her and very happy with her. She will obviously trial again before she races and we are hoping to progress towards a race like the Myer Classic with her.’

It’s not entirely clear where this year’s Melbourne Spring will take Politeness, but you would think she will be a horse that features in amongst the Racing odds for a few races, potentially including the Thousand Guineas. We’re going to be keeping a lookout for her, because she’s a decent prospect for the Spring, especially if she can get a decent preparation behind her…
