Melbourne Spring Odds: Look At Happy Trails For Mackinnon
November 1st, 2014 by Pom de TurfHe might not have the shortest odds next to his name when you have a look at the Racing odds for today’s Mackinnon Stakes at Flemington, but there has been plenty of love from the punters for Happy Trails for the race, and you can understand why when you look back at a brave run in the Cox Plate. He would probably have to call him unfortunate to wind up in sixth place in the Cox Plate, but he certainly did enough to draw attention to himself, with both bookmakers and with punters.
He was the favourite at one stage this week, and he’s still seeing some betting, even though we’re seeing three horses on shorter odds at Sportsbet right now. Those three, even with Side Glance scratched from the card, will offer some seriously stiff resistance to Happy Trails in the Mackinnon Stakes: they are Chris Waller’s He’s Your Man, and the joint favourites, both on $6.00, Criterion and Rising Romance.
So there could be a streak of optimism involved in all those punters who have Happy Trails for the 2014 Mackinnon Stakes, but you’d have to say he’s a horse who could definitely win it – a beaten favourite in last year’s Mackinnon Stakes and looking good as we go through this year’s Melbourne Spring: he’s going to have a say in the race, you would think.
