Melbourne Spring Odds: Lucia Valentina Turnbull Stakes Favourite

That has time to change, of course, between now and the start of the race – and Puissance De Lune is sitting just behind Lucia Valentina at odds of $6.00, so it fair to say he will have a say in the race.
In fact, there’s a bit of a feeling that after defeat in last year’s race, the 2014 Turnbull Stakes could be the one for Puissance De Lune, and he’s bound to be well-backed. Add to that a niggling injury to Lucia Valentina and this race looks like it might be wide open. Trainer Kris Lees tells us more: ‘I detected a pulse in the foot yesterday (Wednesday) and we poulticed it overnight. We got a small amount of puss out of the area but I don’t think it’s going to be a problem. Because of this I didn’t gallop her this morning, but she’ll be alright by Saturday.’
It could be that the suspicion of an injury casts doubt on Lucia Valentina in the race, but punters look to still be keen to back her to come home and win it. She’ll face a stiff challenge from a strong field, of course – one that includes Silent Achiever and Happy Trails as well as Puissance De Lune.
