Melbourne Spring Racing Odds: O’Brien Wants A Cox Plate

August 20th, 2014 by Pom de Turf

Irish trainer Aiden O’Brien has had a mixed experience of the Melbourne Spring over the years. He has seen a measure of success with a place in the Melbourne Cup for Mahler, but he’s had bad experiences, too – the one that stands out would be the 2008 Melbourne Cup that saw him fielding some pretty stern questions from the stewards. Be that as it may, it looks like he’s going to be back for more in 2014, and his runner Adelaide is going to be amongst the Racing odds for the Cox Plate…

Adelaide has been super consistent in recent times, finding a placing in every one of his last six races. And he has travelled, too, with races in the UK, France, Ireland and in the States proving that he’s not ruffled by a journey. And he’ll be part of a Coolmore campaign to find some wins in Australia in the Melbourne Spring – the stable had a frustrating time of it last year, with an injury to Atlantic Jewel robbing them of a chance to see a favourite come home for them.

So expect to see Aiden O’Brien on a plane to these shores in time for the Cox Plate at least, but there could be more horses than Adelaide making the trip, according to Coolmore Australia racing manager James Bester: ‘I can confirm Adelaide has been entered for the Cox Plate. They are still discussing if there will be any entries in the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups and I’m waiting to hear from Ballydoyle.’ Either way, you can be certain that we’ll have the up-to-the-minute Racing odds for you, so check back soon!
