Racing Odds: Speediness A Cox Plate Prospect

July 25th, 2014 by Pom de Turf

Last year was a successful one for Speediness, and it looks like trainer Colin Scott has in mind a similar path – one that starts with the Bobbie Lewis Quality, a race that Speediness won last year with a run that launched him into his Spring Season. Look out for him in those Racing odds as we head towards September, and the Bobbie Lewis Quality on the 13th…

Last year, the Spring ended with Speediness placing in both the Crystal Mile and the Emirates Stakes, but Scott thinks that this year he might aim for the Cox Plate itself: ‘it will just depend on how he’s going as to whether we tackle the Cox Plate or whether we go to the Crystal Mile and the Emirates again. He’s proven himself at weight for age and if he comes up as good as he did last time I probably wouldn’t be afraid to have a look at the Cox Plate. He’ll be spot on early in his campaign for sure because they’re races that he can genuinely win. He won the Bobbie Lewis first up last spring, he can sprint very well fresh and he was desperately unlucky in the Sir Rupert Clarke and the Toorak.’

So a familiar journey waits for Speediness as he makes his final preparations before Rosehill in September, and we’ll certainly be keeping an eye out for the Racing odds that feature him. If he can do his trainer proud and put in a couple of strong runs in the early Spring, then he could be aiming high!
