Hanks could appear in Victoria Derby

 Hanks could follow up his win in Saturday's group 2 2040m AAMI Vase with a shot at the Victoria Derby, his trainer has said.

Peter Moody has said the galloper pulled up well from the victory at Moonee Valley, prompting speculation he will contest the weekend's Derby.

Odds on Hanks for the race have dropped since the AAMI Vase win, and Betfair now has him at 12.50, down from 20.00 earlier in the week.

However, Moody has said he will monitor the horse closely and may leave it until Saturday morning to make a final decision.

Quoted by the Sydney Morning Herald, Moody declared: "He's always shown great staying promise but I'm probably still not convinced he will go to the derby.

"But if he does please us over the next few days, then obviously it is going to be pretty hard to resist the lure of running in the race.''

Betfair currently has Shamoline Warrior as the favourite for Saturday's race at Flemington on odds of 3.70, with Monaco Consul and Rockferry joint second favourites at 7.00.

Shamoline Warrior could head into the Melbourne Cup if he wins on Saturday, and would become only the 13th horse to scoop the double if he were to win both races.
