Wide barrier draw for Victoria Derby betting favourite

Victoria Derby favourite Shamoline Warrior has drawn barrier nine for Saturday's $1.5 million race at Flemington.

Trainer Mark Kavanagh will have to decide how best to negotiate the wide draw for his Norman Robinson stakes winner.

IASbet currently has Shamoline Warrior at 3.00 for the 2500m run, which is Australia's oldest classic.

New Zealand chance Monaco Consul has drawn barrier one, which was welcomed by trainer Mike Moroney.

He said: "It's probably ideal for us. Our horse does have gate speed if we do decide to go forward.

"We'll have a look at the form and see what speed is on. The good thing is he has gate speed so we can ride him either way from that draw."

Monaco Consul will have to fight off the challenge of Rockferry on Saturday, half brother to Xcellent, the galloper formerly trained by Moroney.

Rockferry, trained by Danny O'Brien, will be ridden by Damien Oliver and jumps from barrier two.

IASbet rates Rockferry at 4.80, while Monaco Consul is on odds of 5.50 with the same bookmaker.

Other odds include 12.00 for both Onemorenomore and Viking Legend, while Extra Zero is at 13.00.
