Brisbane Lions are hoping they have strengthened their chances for the 2010 AFL season after signing no less than five new recruits in trade week.

The Lions have recruited West Coast utility Brent Staker, Sydney Swans forward Amon Buchanan, Richmond defender Andrew Raines, St Kilda wingman Xavier Clarke and Carlton full-forward Brendan Fevola.

Following their spree the Lions are at 11.00 for the 2010 AFL Premiership, with current joint favourites Geelong and St Kilda at 4.25, with odds from Sportsbet.

Although the Lions have bolstered their ranks, the signing of Fevola in particular has caused some controversy.

He was released by Carlton after off-field antics saw him slip out of favour with the Blues, in particular when he caused offence with drunken behaviour at last month's Brownlow Medal night.

But Lions coach Michael Voss said he had no concerns about the full forward's history, saying via the club's official website: "I think we have a very healthy football culture at our club that’s going to help Brendan maximise his football capabilities.

"I think we have a good group on the rise that he can add value to, not just on the field but also off the field. That’s our expectation."

Also in the mix for the 2010 title are the Western Bulldogs at 6.50, while Hawthorn are at 8.50 and Adelaide at 10.00.
