NRL Odds: Eels Feeling Unlucky

January 7th, 2015 by TJ Dilfer

NRL teams have to travel, and the NRL odds can be affected by a worse draw that will see a franchise collect more air miles than they might want. On the flip-side, of course, a better draw can mean that little bit extra recovery time between the big games, and in an incredibly tough contest like a Rugby League game, that could make all the difference.

A lot of it is Read the rest of this entry »

AFL Odds: Chris Knight Eyeing Comeback

January 7th, 2015 by TJ Dilfer

It’s time for the hard work in advance of the 2015 AFL season, and when we’re looking over the AFL odds for the coming year, we’re looking quite closely at Richmond, who are at odds of $2.00 to make another appearance in the finals this year, but we’re not sure how they’ll pull up in 2015: it took a near-miraculous run of wins to sneak them into finals footie last year, and they Read the rest of this entry »

NRL Odds: Cleary Worried About Nines

January 7th, 2015 by TJ Dilfer

The Dick Smith NRL Auckland Nines, or the Auckland Nines to you and me, have a tendency to divide opinion. Fans seem to like them – plus punters like the chance to see which sides are likely to make their NRL odds look long in the early season – and it’s a format of the game that we wouldn’t mind seeing get bigger and spreading to all parts of the globe as an ambassador for Rugby League (which might be massive here in Australia, but doesn’t get nearly the same audiences in other countries). But there are coaches who see the Nines as an unnecessary interruption to their pre-season preparation, and who aren’t at all keen to risk their players in the competition at all.

One of those coaches who take a dim view of the Auckland nines is Read the rest of this entry »

January 6th, 2015 by G Waldorf

The Strikers are unbeaten going into tonight’s game against the Scorchers, and it’ll be a massive result if they can win it after the Stars did them a favour with a thrilling super-over defeat of the Sixers. And looking at the Cricket odds, the Strikers go in as decent $1.68 favourites to Read the rest of this entry »

AFL Odds: Coaches Under Pressure

January 6th, 2015 by TJ Dilfer

We know it’s early to be doing this, but we thought we’d have a look at which of the AFL coaches are likely to be under pressure in the 2015 season, and maybe have a guess at what it will take to get them a bit of job security. There’s always pressure on coaches, of course, and it very much comes with the territory when you take the top job, but Read the rest of this entry »

NRL Odds: Work To Do For Dragons Pack

January 6th, 2015 by TJ Dilfer

The big men are the engine room of an NRL side, and they need to be able to put a side on the front foot if the men in the wide channels are going to capitalise. It might not be the aspect of the game that makes the highlights reel most often, but you know as well as we do that if a franchise’s forward pack can’t get one over the opposition, the NRL odds for each game and for the season are going to reflect that.

So there will have been some concern – and will still be some concern, especially amongst fans – at the way the 2014 season went for the St George Illawarra pack. There was Read the rest of this entry »

AFL Odds: Putting The Physios To Work On The Gold Coast

January 6th, 2015 by TJ Dilfer

The first game of the new AFL season is still a distance away, but it won’t feel much like that for the players, who will be back in work with a vengeance this week, putting in the hard graft that will pay dividends when the season’s well underway, safe in the knowledge that a strong pre-season can see a team’s AFL odds creeping down even before the good results start to arrive.

And the other people who will be Read the rest of this entry »

Cricket Odds: Indian Pride

January 5th, 2015 by G Waldorf

It hasn’t been the tour that they would have wanted, and it’s seen at least one high-profile casualty in Test captain MS Dhoni, but India’s superstar line-up have one more chance to salvage some pride from their trip Down Under. The Cricket odds are not in their favour, it looks like, but can new captain Virat Kohli start his tenure with a win?

He will certainly try to Read the rest of this entry »
