World Cup: Odds Against An England Resurgence?

June 10th, 2014 by G Waldorf

It might be something we should say in hushed tones in case the English press are listening, but it looks like England fans might be approaching this World Cup with reasonable expectations. The England World Cup odds suggest they will be a worthy addition to the Brazil World Cup, but that they won’t be one of the teams in the mix for the trophy at the business end of the tournament. But that’s just what the bookies think – could there be a surprise in store from England?

Under manager Roy Hodgson, it could just be that England have pulled together a youthful squad – based around a core of Liverpool players – who have the potential to surprise any opposition. They face Italy in their first encounter – on the 15th – and it will be an absolutely key game for both teams if they’ve got hopes of progressing to the knockout stages. England could, for once, find themselves in an ideal position for the players and coaching staff: expectations at home are under control, and they’ve got a squad that could surprise their opponents. Could they be worth a bet at $26.00?
