World Cup: Odds For Australia vs South Africa

April 17th, 2014 by G Waldorf

There are 56 days between us and the start of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, and there’s just a month before Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglu names the squad that will make the trip to Brazil. You can get all the odds for Australia by following that link, and we’re taking a look here at the friendly that the Socceroos have got lined up, against South Africa.

All the buzz surrounding the Socceroos squad as the 2014 FIFA World Cup draws closer has been about regeneration, transition, and about the future. Australia played some great soccer in their recent friendly against Ecuador, before imploding and coming out with a 4-3 defeat to mull over. That was probably Postecoglu’s last chance for genuine experimentation – the friendly scheduled for the ANZ Stadium on May 26th is more of a chance to start putting names on the teamsheet in pen. The squad of 30 for the World Cup will be announced on May 16th, and you would think that Postecoglu will take the opportunity to see those players in action against South Africa.

And the bookies see the Socceroos as the favourites to win against South Africa, offering odds of $1.73 on a win for Australia, $3.40 on the draw, and $4.20 odds on a win for the Bafana Bafana. Those look pretty good for Socceroos fans who will be hoping for a feel-good win – or at least an enterprising performance – to take them a step closer to the World Cup. There are lots of betting markets on offer for the friendly, too, on Sportsbet right now, including a few interesting half time / full time bets, including $4.20 odds for all square at half time and the Socceroos to grab the win in the second half. Why not have a look over them and see if anything tempts you? We’ve got all your Australia World Cup odds waiting for you if you follow the link, including odds for Australia vs Chile, and lots more World Cup odds, too…
