Scriven to partner Scenic Shot following ban appeal
Posted on November 10th 2009 by
Scenic Shot will be piloted by Shane Scriven in the Sandown Classic on Saturday after the jockey appealed a suspension order.
Scriven launched a plea after he was found guilty of careless riding at Doomben aboard Southerly Impact last Saturday and has been granted a stay by officials, meaning he can take part in the group 2 2400m race.
If he had not launched the appeal, Scriven's seven-meeting ban would gave ruled him out of Saturday and a ride on a horse he has had success with in the past.
The pair have tasted victory in a number of high-profile runs, including the group 1 Doomben Cup, and the group 2 Brisbane Cup.
Both also pulled off a minor shock in winning the Mackinnon Stakes over 2000m at he Flemington Carnival in October.
Scenic Shot is expected to be marked out as the favourite for Saturday's race in most early horse racing betting markets, but will be up against the challenge of eight-year-old Zipping, who is bidding for a third win in a row in the race.
Also likely to be high in the betting is Mark Kavanagh-trained Raffaello, although the five-year-old is stepping up in distance for the race.
