World Cup: Odds For The First Game

March 19th, 2014 by G Waldorf

The Socceroos, when they run out in their first game of the 2014 FIFA World Cup against Chile on June 14th, will wear retro-style kit inspired by the 1974 Australia side that was the first to take part in a World Cup tournament. They will go into the game with a similar attitude, we suspect – in fact, the jersey’s collar bears a quote from the skipper of that trailblazing side of the 70s, Peter Wilson: ‘we can do the impossible’. Is it a worrying sign that Read the rest of this entry »

NRL: Round Three: Manly Odds $1.22, Storm $1.28, Raiders $1.53

March 19th, 2014 by TJ Dilfer

The teamsheets are in for Round Three, and the world of the NRL is abuzz with all the talking points generated by another crop of excellent games in Round Two – this is why we love the NRL: all the action is coming thick and fast, and it’s a short turnaround time for all the teams, meaning that the winners from Round Two have the chance to capitalise straight away, and the losers from the previous round are given the chance to bounce back immediately.

One of those sides looking to bounce back is Parramatta, who will need to Read the rest of this entry »

March 19th, 2014 by TJ Dilfer

Round One of the 2014 AFL season rumbles on, and it’s been a fantastic reminder of all the things we love about the AFL – there have been some great games for the neutral to enjoy, and there have definitely been games for the fans to relish. And that first round of games comes to its conclusion on Sunday night when West Coast and the Bulldogs meet to get their seasons underway.

At the tail-end of last season, the Bulldogs were one of the most exciting teams around – and a pleasure to watch. Their 15th place finish was Read the rest of this entry »

NRL: Cowboys $1.33 Odds To Beat Warriors

March 18th, 2014 by TJ Dilfer

It’s shaping up to be a busy weekend on our sofa, with two great NRL games on Friday night that will need watching, and three more come Saturday that we’ll be reluctant to miss. Both the Roosters and the Rabbitohs are in action, and we’ll be watching to see if they can live up to the pre-season billing after an interesting opening couple of rounds. The Cowboys have been thrown into the mix by plenty of pundits predicting success in 2014, as well, and we’ll be watching them, too, when they take on the New Zealand Warriors on Saturday night. Before that game, though, there’s Read the rest of this entry »

A pulsating first round of AFL fixtures rumbles on into Saturday, with two more tantalising games in store to make the 22nd an enjoyable evening’s viewing, to say the least. But with opportunity knocking, who will be Read the rest of this entry »

World Cup: Tickets Selling Fast!

March 18th, 2014 by G Waldorf

The fourth round of ticket sales for the FIFA World Cup 2014 has been and gone in a flash, and if you tried and failed to score yourself a ticket to a Socceroos game, then you were by no means alone! The good old social media were abuzz with frustrated Australia fans who had hoped to secure tickets to watch the Socceroos in action, but the quality of the teams in Group B could well be working against Aussies, and making for some desirable tickets – the Spain game in particular was very much over-subscribed, and sold out in minutes, if not seconds. We feel for the fans who Read the rest of this entry »

NRL: Get Your Roosters and Rabbitohs Odds For Friday

March 17th, 2014 by TJ Dilfer

The Round One clash between the Rabbitohs and the Roosters wasn’t just billed as potentially the fixture of the round, but there was plenty of talk as to what it would show us about the sides that would be in the mix for success in 2014. As it turned out, it was the Rabbitohs who walked away from that one with the win, and in convincing style, but there’s no time to rest on your laurels in the NRL, and South Sydney found themselves in the way of a Sea Eagles resurgence in Round Two, and on the wrong side of the result. The Roosters, in the meantime, were Read the rest of this entry »

AFL: Can Essendon and Adelaide Defy The Odds?

March 17th, 2014 by TJ Dilfer

We’re right in the middle of a fantastic start to the 2014 AFL season, and the Round One games we’ve seen so far have got us whipped into a frenzy of excitement for another year of great footie action. Port Adelaide literally powered past the Blues (see what we did there?) in an incredible season opener that their fans will be reliving for months if not years – we would have said that they’re the happiest fans in the country right now, except for an historic win by GWS over Sydney that will Read the rest of this entry »

World Cup: Cahill Praises New Generation

March 13th, 2014 by G Waldorf

It looks like it’s shaping up to be an exciting World Cup for Australia. Sure, Group B doesn’t look like it was the best place for the Socceroos to be drawn, and sure, the odds are pretty long for Australia to scrap their way out of the group, but we have to say we’re liking the way Ange Postecoglu has been going about preparing the side for the tournament, and we’re not the only ones: Socceroos veteran Tim Cahill has been in the press this week praising the new crop of players pulling on the gold jersey…

Cahill became Australia’s leading goal scorer on Thursday when Read the rest of this entry »
