It’s the first time that the Williams’ outfit have got their hands on the Caulfield Cup, but it’ll sit alongside some good-looking silverware in the cabinet – including four previous Melbourne Cups. It was a great race in terms of Fawkner’s build-up to the Melbourne Cup on November 5th (so good that it has caught the eye of the handicappers, but more of that later…) – but it was a great ride by Nick Hall to secure the win, too. In particular, the fact that it was Dandino that couldn’t make up the ground in the last straight will be interesting for punters and pundits alike: Dandino is currently a $9.00 bet on Sportsbet, just behind the favourite Fiorente at $6.50, where you’ll get $21.00 for Fawkner. We might not be the only ones tempted to back the Caulfield Cup winner at that price…
