We’re really looking forward to a featherweight tussle between Frankie Edgar and Charles Oliveira at Sunday night’s UFC 162. Most of the pre-match analysis has focussed on Edgar, and you can see from the odds that he’s the favourite by a good stretch, but this is his first non-title fight in a long time, and whilst he’ll want to chalk it up as another step towards an inevitable title shot, Oliveira has the potential to cause him some real problems, and could be in with a better chance than is reflected in odds of $5.20.

Much has been made of Edgar’s slow starting, and the fact that this is a fight that will end after three rounds. That means that if Edgar does get out of the blocks slowly, he won’t have much time to find his rhythm. Of course, the last thing he wants is a stumbling block on his way to a title shot, but Oliveira can hurt him, being a handy fighter with good speed and confidence in his submissions. All that said, though, Edgar is still a heavy favourite at $1.17, and the fight is likely to be about his performance, not Oliveira’s. Look out for a canny bet at $2.37 that this one will go the distance.
