We talk quite often about the need for fighters to build momentum from fight to fight and from win to win, because it lets them work towards the big matches of their careers, and towards the title shots that they inevitably crave. But there’s no shortage of motivation at the other end of the scale, either. The reality of the UFC is that if you don’t score wins, then you won’t survive. And you’ll see two fighters on November 10th who are starting to feel the pinch: a win for either Igor Pokrajac or Rafael Cavalcante would give them a much-needed boost, where a loss would nudge them that little bit closer to the brink.

So there will be no lack of motivation for either fighter, but how do these two stack up? Pokrajac is a tough customer, who just keeps coming forwards, even in tough situations. He may have seen more defeats than victories in the Octagon, but there’s no doubting that he’s incredibly resilient. He also boasts what is probably a more rounded game than Cavalcante, who is a knockout specialist. Trouble is that there hasn’t been evidence of anything else on show from Cavalcante. That’s not to say that he hasn’t got the skills – he has a solid BJJ background to draw on – but he will need to think of a better gameplan than simple striking against Pokrajac.

In terms of betting, this could be an interesting one. Cavalcante, as you can see above, is the bookies’ strong favourite at $1.33, but there are plenty of pundits tipping Pokrajac to win this one, so he might be worth a bet at $3.14. In particular we’re tempted to take a long punt at $15.50 that this fight will end with the first submission defeat of Cavalcante’s career...
